CHIUS (Community Health Initiative by University Students) is recruiting a cohort of volunteers to work at the Vancouver Native Health (VNH) clinic for the upcoming October to May period. (http://www.vnhs.net/; address: 449 East Hastings Street).
As a volunteer, you will be part of an interdisciplinary team providing care to youth and Aboriginal patients in the downtown eastside (DTES). In addition, this will be an opportunity to practice history taking, clinical and diagnostic skills under the supervision of an experienced physician and a nurse practitioner. For the last few years this has been an activity in the Interprofessional Education Passport, but it is under review this year until a mat leave replacement is found.
As this clinic is only open once a week (Wednesdays from 5:30-8:30pm) and has limited space, CHIUS is recruiting 10 medical students for this year who will each be invited to three consecutive shifts. CHIUS is looking for five VFMP MD17’s and five MD 2018’s with an interest in addiction medicine, mental health and working with vulnerable populations.

The email should indicate your year (first or second) and a brief explanation of why you are interested in volunteering. Please note that selected students MUST be available for the mandatory orientation on the evening of September 24th (approx. 5:30 – 6:30pm) and shifts will be on Wednesday nights from 5:30-8:30pm.
Selected candidates for this year’s cohort will receive an invitation to the mandatory orientation session and an orientation package with forms that must be completed prior to your first shift.
